A Woodland man's murder still remains
unsolved over half a year later. Your
help is needed in solving this
Crimestoppers Crime of the Month.
During the early afternoon hours of
Wednesday, February 6, 2008, Darrel
Smith was shot to death inside his
workshop located next to his home on the
Thomas Road in Woodland. State Police
believe robbery may have been the motive
as the victim's wallet and a safe were
not found at the scene. Detective
Sargent John Cote of the State Police
also believe Smith's homicide may be
linked to a series of daytime robberies
which occurred throughout Aroostook and
Penobscot counties dating back to 2006.
Cote says the Smith case is the only one
he's aware of where a resident was home
at the time of the robbery.
No suspects have been named, and Cote
warns residents to secure their property
when they're not at home, secure
vehicles when not in them and just be
aware of what's going on around them in
their neighborhood.
Cote says state police have recovered
some additional evidence in the case. He
adds a reward of $30,000 is being
offered as well as the regular
Crimestoppers award. If you have any
information on this crime or any other
crime, call the Aroostook County
