How does Aroostook County Crime Stoppers
work?
• If you know anything about a crime, call
1-800-638-TIPS (1-800-638-8477).
• You remain anonymous. Your information is identified by a code
number. If your information leads to an arrest, you receive a
cash award of up to $1,000.
Where does the money come from?
• Aroostook County Crime Stoppers is a
non-profit organization relying solely on donations from private
citizens, organizations and local businesses.
• Aroostook County Crime Stoppers depends on you for the funds
to gather clues that can help stop crime in our community
Program Organization
The success of Aroostook County Crime
Stoppers hinges on the joint cooperation and concentrated
efforts of its three elements: community, media, and
law enforcement.
As representatives of the community, the
Aroostook County Crime Stoppers’
board of directors:
• Sets policy;
• Coordinates fund raising;
• Formulates a system of awards.
The local media:
• Educates the public about the
program’s objectives and achievements;
• Regularly publicizes details of unsolved offenses by
presenting an account or reenactment of a selected Crime of
the Month.
Police or other law enforcement
personnel:
• Staff the program;
• Receive information reported by anonymous callers;
• Direct information to detectives for further
investigation;
• The program’s police coordinator selects the crime to be
publicized and serves as liaison between media, public and
investigators.
